A drop awning does the simple job well: it comes straight down over a window or patio edge, cutting low afternoon sun that an eave or a roof cannot reach.
They also work as a privacy screen between neighbouring properties, which is often the real reason people ask for them.
Rope and pulley, crank and motorised versions are available. Where the position is exposed, we will usually recommend a track-guided Zipscreen instead so wind is not a problem.
